Find it or buy it? Where? What did former owner tell you? What kind of animals are those? Size? Does it have a lid? Does lid come off? Show us a pic with lid off. What kind of wood is it?
bought it at a multi-vendor place, it's carved from a solid piece of wood, 11" wide, has lizards/salamanders on it, the lid comes off and has a cut out for the spoon.
Looks like African carving done for tourist trade. Probably late 20th century.
Your photo reminded me of this wood box that I'd purchased years ago at one of our local thrift stores; the animal depicted looks very much the same as the one on your box. As you can see mine was made in 2 pieces, the top and bottom separate and the base is covered with thatched strips of wood. These boxes were likely made mainly for export and rarely carried any labels; I suspect that mine is of African origin but that's strictly a guess. This box measures approx. 8" long and over 5" high. I had to wipe off years of dust and used some wood polish on it. If both bowls were made in Africa the animals depicted might be Nile monitors. It's also possible that these were made in Indonesia where other types of large reptiles are found.
