i think this is a powder flask, no idea of age. It looks like the carving is on bone the actual flask is brass. Picked it up at a boot sale. It measures 4 inches by 5 inches. Any help appreciated, thankyou

Bad news, hope you didn't pay too much for it. Link indicates it's a reproduction made of molded resin to imitate ivory.

Even so, I think it's very pretty and believe it could be sold as a "repro" for $25. or so...Make sure in your ad you call it a reproduction.

QUESTION:  Does the resin part rotate inside the brass holder?  When worn (as is) the carved design is upside down to the on-looker.  Rotating it would correct the problem.

Thanks for that, no I only paid £3 for it.

It is still quite unique and, I am sure very desirable to many.  Good find.
