looks like an Asian tea tin .. is it tin or glass? how big is it, is it heavy ? is the top design (dragon) painted on or moulded
it's not tin or glass. it seems to be brass with porcelain it fairly delicate as it has a chip on the edge. thanks for your help.
Is there any writing on edge of lid, or under the lid, or on the bottom?
Nope, no writing anywhere. under the lid and bottom is just blue porcelain. thanks.
I looked this up and thanks for the info. jim
There you go, it's a tin tea caddy, cloissone. Values range from $50. to $293. USD. What you perceive as porcelain is thick enamel paint. Cloissone involves placing tiny wires on the tin and filling the enclosure with a dry enamel powder. When heated in the kiln it melts and fills in the whole area. You should be able to feel the wires with your fingers. Cloissone can also be faked by painting fake golden wires and enamel paint. Values are less. https://picclick.com/Antique-Chinese-Cloisonn%C3%A9-Tea-Caddy-Conta...
This one looks like your dragon, but the price is not as generous.
"This one looks like your dragon, but the price is not as generous."
Opening your link, which is essentially the same link as the one I submitted, it shows the "average value" is $195.00, well within what I showed $50 to $293 range. It also shows a 4 figure amount which is an exception. Since we both are quoting "picclick" links it's their problem, not ours.
thanks for all your help!
yes, it looks the same, doesn't it!
