I found this brass hunting horn or foxhorn in a local thrift store a few years ago; I played slide trombone and trumpet/flugelhorn for many years back in the 1960's-1980's and was instantly captivated with this instrument. The mouthpiece appears permanently affixed to the instrument and the portion below the mouthpiece is engraved "England." I would have expected that this might have also been engraved with the maker's name so this might have been designed strictly as a decorative item. In terms of size the circular portion measures just over 12 inches in diameter; I paid about $24.50 for this beauty. We have a few wild foxes in the mountain area where I live but they're not subject to being hunted.
There are tons of them. Made mainly for decorative purposes, but many can be played. Most seem to be made in India, but none of them indicated a specific maker. Yours is nice, shiny and well-made...enjoy.
