I Antique Online

Hello again,

I recently picked up this antique cut out silhouette of Henry Alexander Wise. I am thinking it is 19th century but not sure how early. There is some biographical background hand written on the back. I know he was a prominent figure in Virginia, being a Confederate Brigadier General who was with Lee at Appomattox when he surrendered. He also served as Governor of Virginia and signed John Brown's death warrant. There is quite a lot of information on him on the internet, but I was wondering if anyone had an idea of value of a silhouette of this kind. Thanks.

Mid 1800s seems about right.  I found this example of a president striking a similar pose, but almost all of the full body cut outs seems to have some background features or back drops?  This was the simplest, just a rug.

This is just to give you an idea of where to go from here

Thanks Molly.
