Do you have any idea on where this item came from, it's age, value etc?
The glass is Deep Ruby Amber AND I found little gold circles circle (using magnification). (SEE PICTURES) Does this help in identifying it any? I truly appreciate your help . If you do not know anything about it could you possibly direct me somewhere ? Thank you Description below:
I just received this bottle/decanter. I would like to know its age and estimated value if any. It is very heavy, very dark looks black until light shines through it, then a rich ruby red amber color. The lip though difficult to see in pictures is thin and uneven the base of the lip is wavy and uneven, definitely not tooled. There appear to be side seams that stop and do not show on the neck. There is a seam that runs around the base so I guess it is a three part mold? The decanter stands 9 1/2 inches in height the actual bottle height excluding the metal work is 8 inches in height. There are no markings that I can find. The base has whittle marks, looking very much like orange peel only marks are larger. The neck does not have these same markings rather marks that look like chicken scratches. In addition, the base is much thicker glass than the rest of the bottle..There isn't a pontil mark but there is a swirl type mark like one that would be made if you ran a knife through cake frosting. but in the glass where the pontil mark would be. The base is "punched up" into the bottle. Any information you could give is so greatly appreciated.

Hi, True ruby (red) glass coloration is achieved by adding real gold. That is why ruby glass is usually more expensive than some other colors. Your decanter is lovely. But I am not certain of age. It is a "decanter" not a bottle -big difference. Hope some one else can tell you more. Try Glasshounds post. Best Wishes, Vicki

Thank you very much Vicki. I will try the Glasshounds post. Just curious, have you ever seen the gold salts photographed before? There are literally hundreds of them in this "decanter" (thanks) . Patty

I can't see what you're talking about, "gold salts". In marbles and some other glass products they add mica flakes which sparkle like gold. I think they call it "lutz" or "mica lutz". The metal looks like it could be silverplate or sterling, but if there are no hallmarks it is called a white metal. Sometimes the tiny hallmarks are hidden on edges or under the stopper.

How big is that gold round object and where in your decanter or cruet is it located? On the bottom, sides, what. Could it be a sticker with the name on it? Your other pictures are out of focus. Vicki told you it wasn't a "bottle", yet you continue to call it one. Tom

HI tom, My big mistake! The DECANTER has literally hundreds of these small round gold objects in it. They are not "stickers" of any kind. They are throughout the glass everywhere except the neck. There are very heavy concentrations of them in the base and especially in the bottom of the base. I will try and put a couple of clearer pictures up for you. It is difficult to get them in focus for they are not visible to the eye. I am using magnification on my camera to capture them. Look very closely at the pictures of the base with the kick ups . All of those little circles are just a "few" of them. Hope this helps. Thanks, Patti
