I would just say it is a painted wood wall plaque.
This is a key rack, wood painted wall piece...
Wooden hand-painted wall hanging/plaque?
Hand painted wooden oval plaque with an Elf sitting on a shelf
Perhaps it was made to sit on a shelf? Am I understanding your question?
Yes, I am mostly interested in the process or style of art making. It is almost like decoupage, when I run my fingernail over the art, there is just the slightest of feeling. I was thinking maybe there was a word for that kind of technique on wood. Thanks Molly, your help is appreciated!
It is decoupage if the wood is decorated with cut out paper. Though you can feel a slight ridge to the design, it could simply be the thickness of the layer of paint applied to the wood.
It is difficult to be sure from the picture you've provided, whether the image is a cut out applied to the wood or simply painted directly onto the wood, we would need to see an extreme closeup on the image to see if the image is a print or painting.
Thanks for your reply, Michael. I think it is decoupage, not paint.
