Hi everyone. Does anyone know if this is an amphora? I'm just taking a guess based on the information I found on the internet. Any ideas as to the culture that made this one or is a reproduction. It's about 9" tall x 7" diameter. Any help is appreciated.

I would call that an Amphora.  The design is not common for it to be Greek, but it could be.  Are there any markings or other features that make it look "old" or like a "repo" to you?

No, I don't see any other markings. This is the first time I've acquired anything like and so I'm a bit challenged as to how to even tell. I'm recently retired and a newby at this. Still learning as I go along from the experts.

We are all newbies at some things.  I think your vessel is a classic shape.  I was just wondering about the design.  Even the references I have seen thus far with any type of floral motif, are not resembling the five petal flower on yours.  I guess the search continues.  Looks like terracotta?  Are the lines carved into the clay or just painted?

I am sure the others will chime in within good time.

Yes, the lines are carved into the clay.

Thanks a bunch Molly.
