I have a passion for collecting which includes but not limited to: all kinds of pop culture items, salt & pepper shakers, old cookie jars, old shabby painted items, old advertising tin signs, vintage Black Americana, pottery bowls, retro kitchen items, old display cabinets, cricket benches, antique furniture, Adirondack items and the list goes on and on. I am a total addict!! Somebody help me!! I've been collecting about 15 years and don't have room for it all. I frequent yard sales, estate sales, flea markets and I do buy and sell on Ebay.

The lips were a bright red sticker. This was a mustard jar and you got the bank "for free". The most valuable versions have the lips with the original lid not having the coin slot pushed out.

This was amongst my mom's knickknacks. My dad called it a "Jolly Joe." I looked that up on Ebay and it did find these glass head banks, however, mine doesn't have the original cap. On Ebay, sellers are asking anywhere from $10 to $35 for them at present and some show the lips painted bright red. Was the original jar painted?

Here is a postcard probably from the 1940s entitled "A Busy Day in the Cotton Field". This card is unused but does have a small wound. The back says, C.T.Cotton Picking Series - 10 Subjects. James~ Glad you appreciated this. I do need to correct myself. The Afro-American Life Ins. Co. started in 1901. Obviously it was in response to the difficulties people of color were having when attempting to secure insurance. The brochure that came with it featured a white mother with a white baby. Fascinating!

The picture and link I just posted are for a baby bottle given to new mommies from the Afro-American Life Insurance Company. This business operated from 1909-1990 in Jacksonville, FL. Besides having all of the paperwork, what makes this interesting is the black Bakelite nipple. Enjoy! Barbara
