Since it's faded the value decreases. Get rid of it. $5.00 is my suggestion. It's too bad, but such is life.
My opinion.
I believe we have a nice 1950's piece of barkcloth at the estate I'm currently working on. It's very similar to the one shown by Dianne below. One side of it looks to have faded - probably by sunlight. We think it was used as a table cloth of sorts because it is hemmed. What sort of price should we ask for it? It's a large table size - approx. 16 x 22.

Comment by tomsantiquesetcetera on September 14, 2011 at 12:10pm Upon further inspection I pitched the bright gold-colored table cloth in the garbage. It was badly stained purple, spilt wine I imagine. But I ended up with 2 Mex. type blankets.
DIANNE: I read your article and all posts, and the pix are interesting. Can anybody put up some zoom pics of the fabric? It says it is woven cotton and rayon with nubs. What are nubs? What is bark-like. Is modern barkcloth made of inner tree bark, beaten and felted (what is felted) together.
Boy am I dumb on this subject.

Comment by nancesnostalgia on July 31, 2011 at 7:20pm Tom; you always seem to do good! most of the fabric you are showing seems to me that it is upholstery/curtain fabric from the sixties and seventies....there are of course folks that really like them, mid century modern for repurposing and etc.....just keep diggin' in those junque piles! i mean, bags.....nancesnostalgia
Comment by tomsantiquesetcetera on July 31, 2011 at 6:53pm You remember the 7 blind men who felt an elephant and then described what an elephant looks like...that's how I feel. I see fabrics but it isn't the right stuff. I thank you for your responses. As I said I only paid 50 cents, but I also got 2 nice Mexican blankets and a large tablecloth.
I'll keep lookin!
Tom
