Meet Your Moderator Bev Hamel Of Antiques in Bethania

I was born a paper junkie and this was my very first collection - my father had a shop in Lahaska Pa for many years offering paper collectibles - so the trait was inherited. This stuff literally oozes out of every space imaginable in my office area - I cant bear to part with it or sell it!

The January 2011 issue of Paper & Advertising Collectibles Marketplace published my first paid article, titled "Remember Embroidered Tradecards?  It is about Sewing Machine Stitch Samples and since I retained the rights to the article I am posting it here.

These are beautiful -thanks for sharing. On the reverse side are what was called the "penny dreadful" though date to the 1700s and are quite scarce. They are filled with satyr and debunking love more then liking love. But Valentines day, post cards and remembrances tell such a historical chronological stage of love.

It was Alderfer's - a well known name in the antique world besides the auction house of the same name.

I am working on an article about Early (1800's) (early1900) autograph albums/sketchbooks/diaries (perhaps from England) with  original watercolors, drawings, calligraphy. Looking for background information on this subject, collectors. Have been told that they are sometimes referred to as "school girl art" or friendship albums. Want info on customs, history, collectibles, values, background. Please email me at Dianne@cdiannezweig.com  Thank You Dianne

I have visited both paper ephemera shops over the years.  "Bethania's" father's shop was in Lahaska, Pa., which is in Bucks County.  Karen visited 3-Ls (Leonard L. Lasko) paper shop, which was on Rt. 30 in Lancaster County, Pa.  I hope that clears things up a little.

He had the only paper shop in the area from the late 70s and closed about ten or more years ago.  His shop was right on the main village area and near the big flea market. There was an L in the name - he was well known and people came from all over.
