Hi there - I have a collection of end of day christmas ornaments. I know they are German made in the 1800's I believe. I have been collecting them for many years and I just love them. I was told they were made by the glass makers at the end of the day with all the leftover paint as not to waste any paint. I have since been told that it is just a nice story. Does anyone else collect these beautiful ornaments or know any more information on them?

Dianne,

I just ran across this article and thought of your discussion here. It's called A Seasonal Obsession and is an interview with an avid collector of all kinds of things. However, down toward the end of the article, she talks about "End of Day" ornaments and relates the same story you offered. Since she is a serious collector, I figure she has researched it. On the other hand, maybe no one will really ever know but I like it!

Your ornaments are beautiful, by the way!
