I went to a church rummage sale in Twin Falls in 1987 and bought 18 glass floats that were mistakenly identified.  I paid $18.00 for them plus a $2. donation.

Two days later I sold them to a local sporting goods store for $3,500.

They are not fishing floats.  They are glass target balls for shotgun target practice.  They pre-date clay pigeons.  They are about the size of a softball and most of them have names like Winchester or Remington on them.  The cobalt blue Winchesters were worth $850. each at the time.  There are some generic ones w/o names but of the same size.

If you have any small "fishing floats" the size of softballs LOOK CLOSELY.  You might have some rare Target Balls.

Forgot to say that a trap wasn't used at all. just bacon on the hook.

Tom, I've actually fished for blue crab with a rod and reel out at Sebastian Inlet in Florida. A strip of bacon did the trick quite well. You really don't cast it out but sorta just drop it in. Leave it a few minutes and slowly real it in. The crabs were to busy eating the raw bacon to notice or care that they had been pulled up on shore. It's been a long time but I think we had fun doing this for about thirty minutes, maybe. Had six in a bucket. We never waited for a line tug, but they were there every time.

Neat pictures.  Different angle on fishing.

I saw a new crab fishing trap. Made of stiff wire and netting. It's tossed from a pier on 50 lb line with a large fishing pole and spinning reel. It drops to the bottom where a large Dungeness crab walks onto it and starts eating the bait. Bait is 1 chicken drumstick, uncooked.  Fish don't like it, crabs do.

See the line wiggle, yank on it and the trap closes around the crab like a Venus fly trap.  Says you can catch 4/hour if lucky.

No novels; wrote some bits of history for a restaurant in exchange for a dinner!  Your son should convert that short story to a poem; it would be thrilling to say the least.

Only thing I've written is my epitaph:  There is not much room, In this tomb, But enough for me, For eternity.
