I would love to see a picture of your Robinson Crusoe book! That sounds way cool!

I love all books but am always looking for wonderful vintage books. I resently rescued a very old copy of Robinson Crusoe that was in a dealers outside porch booth at a local Antique Mall. I paid $6.50. Its full title is The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, of York, Mariner as Related by Himself. It has beautiful illustrations by Walter Paget. No date but I believe it is from the 1890's. Its intact but has some loose pages and needs some work. I was afraid if I didn't buy it the seller might just toss it because the other books it was with were in horrible condition. It has a nice cover of Crusoe setting at a table with a dog, parrot and other animal looking at him. Its a wonderful old book for my collection.

I have gathered a few old books from my grandmother's collection and also from cleaning out the storage barn on my family's property last fall. I wrote about this adventure in Hidden Treasures in Junk on my blog.

Here's ten that I have posted on my site Grandma's Treasures Online - so far...

I've seen a few of these online “U.S. Official Pictures of the World War Showing American Participation: Selected From Official Files of the War Dept," written by Moore, William E. And James C. Russell. But, none with this padded cover. It's pretty cool.

I have quite a few older Golden Books for children. I'm wanting to do some research in that area and see if any are in demand.

Hi paperT, What a wonderful story and a wonderful gift! Your a gal after my own heart! I too love historical fiction and mysteries! Have you read " The Moonstone" by Wilkie Collins? that is supposed to be the very first mystery. It's a great story. I think I want to read the book you mentioned - sounds great! That,s if I can find it!

I've been an avid reader since my first grade teacher introduced me to Dick, Jane, and Spot! I'll read just about anything but I prefer Historical Fiction and Mystery Novels.

Here is a fun Holiday Story... some 20 years ago I purchased a paperback book in the bargain bin of a store I frequented. I hadn't heard of the author before but it was an historical fiction with the story taking place in pre-historic times. I loved Jean Auel's books so much I thought I would give it a try. It was a FANTASTIC book that had such an interesting twist to the ending. I lent it to a friend and said that when she was done with it that I wanted it back. We all know how that goes...the book never returned.

For the next 20 years I've looked off and on for that silly book with no luck. I have a clerk that works for me who enjoys reading also and one day I mentioned this book to him. My Christmas present from him this year....THE BOOK! Let me tell you, I wept! It was so very thoughtful of him to even look for the book for me!

"As If They Were Gods" is the name of the book and it was written by Kate Cameron. If you haven't read it, I can highly recommend it. I'm enjoying reading it all over again even though I know the ending. Just as with the first time I read it, I haven't picked up on any clues that prepares you for the end.

I've decided that I'll look for more books by this author. She has a great style and weaves a story very well.

I'm excited to be a part of this group and website.

Leslie Ford (pen name) wrote mystery/detective novels. I have a nice hardcover set of six collectible books from the 1940s. If you are unfamiliar with her writing, do not expect political correctness. This period writer will take you back to another society.

I am new to this site, so please come and visit my Page.

I have a small collection of vintage books. I couldn't pick a favorite, but right now I'm pretty pleased with the 5 books I bought for $10 at a garage sale. Including a first edition of Hemmingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls - not great condition, but sound. Whoever bought it cut out the press release from the newspaper and tucked it inside the front cover, so there is discoloration, but - it is signed.
