Hi Guys - I joined but haven't posted yet. I gotta say I love kitsch. And it isn't confined to the kitchen, either. I'll get some photos up in the next few days - have I got tacky for you! Now as for the fish...I love the chalkware fishes! I have three sets and I gave my daughter the orange-y set of two like the one in the photo. They're hanging in her bathroom right now. I have the purple-y gold starfish, seahorse and others that I just took down. And I still have the black and whites (old) and the pink and blacks. Yes, I rotate my fish. What else would I do every 12th Saturday? Lord, help me...

Hello Barbara! Welcome - glad you joined. The fish IS cute - that was a Dianne upload. I have a similar set in green, also with bubbles. I, too have all my stuff in storage but 3/4 UNPACKED thankfully, but I'm still getting used to not having it everywhere I look in my house. I agree, spring can't get here soon enough. Can't wait to see your stuff. Again, thank you for joining.

Hello everyone and welcome to The Kingdom of Kitsch! I hope we develop interesting and lively discussions about anything involving the world of collecting Kitschy and what it means to the individual. I think there are many different aspects to collecting kitsch and the reasons behind it.
To some it reflects memories of growing up in an era of change and our parents wanting, but not being able to afford, the finer things. So "cheap" imitations of better goods that could be purchased easily at the dime store made it seem like we were better than we really were, in a way.
To others, and this is where I fit in, it represents an unusual way of looking at the world. I find the tasteless cartoon like design back in the day to be hilarious and fun, even though it could be demeaning to women, minorities and just about everyone! I find it incredibly interesting that designers got away with the things that they did and people bought the stuff! The fact that what sold for .25 in 1955 now sells for $25 is also interesting.......
So join me in dialogues about anything you want regarding this fascinating subject and look for more uploads from my collection. Feel free to share your finds and treasures. The kitschier, the better!
