A Community For People Who Buy, Sell or Collect Antiques, Collectibles and Art
I had an elderly lady friend (80s) who inherited 6 cardboard boxes full of UNUSED stamps from a deceased relative. Many full sheets. All stamps from WW II and earlier. ALL UNUSED, many full sheets. She insisted that I take them and sell them for her 50/50. I spent 3 months trying to sell them. The highest offer I got was $400. for all of them. I returned them to her and she sold them for $500.
I learned one thing...Don't mess with stamps. Nobody wants used stamps, nobody.
I see a Post somebody has a huge collection of previously used stamps and 85% are in excellent condition...A "used stamp" is in poor condition. Nobody wants them. You can bundle a thousand used stamps and ask $.19 for them and nobody will buy them. You who have inherited stamp collections or salvaged them from the dump, or collected them as a kid DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME trying to sell them.
There are a few exceptions, certain rare stamps are valuable, even used. So check for them before you give your collection to the thrift store or your grand kids.
