A Beautifully painted Blanket chest or trunk. Curious what maker or era.

I posted this in the forum, but think it belongs here.  Oops.

My 90 year old aunt got this from her aunt.  It supposedly travelled to Europe, but not sure.  There is writing inside that says it was refinished in 1944. Was it painted then? Or is the paint original?  I love it.IMG_4415.JPGIMG_4418.JPGIMG_4419.JPG

Hi again Barb, It's beautiful! I think it's a Pennsylvania Dutch tole work painted hope or blanket chest. Some of these are very old, ca 1700's - and were still being made into the early 20th century, so its difficult to date using only those pics.

It would be best if you could show us the joinery of the piece, the underside, if possible and or the back and a close up of the interior to. Does it have any drawers?

Also, I would suggest that you post this in the antique and vintage Furniture group - Craig the moderator of that group is very good with this type of antique piece, as are some of our other members. It's a treasure, to be sure! :)

Thank you so much.  No drawers inside. I took a bunch of new pics and will post in the antique furniture group.
