I Antique Online

A Community For People Who Buy, Sell or Collect Antiques, Collectibles and Art

Some of us were talking about advertising thermometers the other day and are wondering what does the number stand for that is seen on some (not all) signs.  See pic this sign has 99 at the top of the degree.

I do not believe this is the date as I know this particular sign is not 1899 or 1999, as my father passed away in 2000 and I know that he had owned this for several years before passing.   I have also seen on Pepsi Thermometer's 42, 50 ???

Just curious.
