Holiday Promotion
Get involved with your town or city, IE our town does a Christmas parade, day after thanksgiving, be open, we then hold festive Fridays from then till Christmas, the merchants, along with the city, & DDA, sponser a horse & wagon, for people to ride around the downtown area, and we have Santa Claus on those Friday nights, this year we are doing something different, on each Friday we are doing a different event each week,

the 1st Friday, we each are printing up a couple of different, favorite Christmas cookie recipe to hand out to customers/people wandering around, with that you can put your add on each so they will see your name each time they look at it. we each our doing our own, using a 8 1/2 X 11" paper printing 2 recipes on each sheet and cutting them in to 2 pcs

2nd Friday, we are doing a art stroll, we will have somewhere between 20-30 local artists, set up in the stores with items for sale, this is good 2 ways, make sure they are locals so their neighbors, family friends will come down to see there works, along with your store,

then the 3rd Friday this year is the treasure hunt, we are having a 3-4 pictures taken of things that are always there, ie masscots, permemet fixtures, unique items to your store, but take close ups, so they have to really look around, and give a discount per item they find, say 5% so they can get a 15-20% discount if they find everything, then they turn in the sheet to a central location, and their is a grand prize drawing or how many you wish. this way you can get the lawyers, ins sales, accounts, & service business, bars, resturants to donate $$ or gift certificuts or items for the grand prize,

Make you shop as warm & fuzzy as you can, make it homey, make them enjoy it totally, make them use all their sences, eyes, ears, noses.
Eyes, decorate the store with Christmas decor, you see it by the truck loads at the fleas & yard sales, or a good excuse to get something different for your self at home, but do not overdo the decorating, to much is distracting to you trying to sell the stuff.
Ears, play up beat seasonal music,
Noses, have some popopori, spray scents, crock pot with some apples and cinninmon sticks in them boiling
And you smiling when greeting them, welcoming them into your store. make them feel wanted.
This is just what we are doing in Allegan, Michigan

At a recent visit to Used Furniture of Canton CT, owners Mark and Holly go out of their way to set up room settings and vignettes to help their customers get ideas. In this photo, everything you see is a prop. (This is fake food and beverage). Mark found these props when a model house was selling off their furnishings. What a great way to set a lovely warm mood in a showroom.

What a great group! We have recently launched a 'WIN AN ANTIQUE' competition on our website to encourage visitors to subscribe to our email list. We are giving away a Victorian Giltwood Mirror! By sending out press releases, this is a good way to increase visitor numbers and links to your site from other people promoting a free competition!

You are all welcome to enter, the more the merrier!!

Vince,

What a great idea! I know many of us 'baby boomers' starting collecting young - so it's time to pass the torch to the next generation.
