Years ago I found this American Indian style rug in an attic. How do I know if it is real?

This tattered old rug almost found its way into a dumpster, but something about it was different, so I salvaged it and brought it home.

The threads are wooven around twine. Give me your thoughts.

Beautiful Rug, even in its tattered shape! My thoughts, and I really am still learning, and reading up on these and other Native American items, are that this maybe a Navajo design, and most likely to be genuine. I will do some further research and see what I can find out for you.
All I know is that the Navjho (spelling) made most of the rugs out of all the Native tribes, perhaps someone can send you to a good site for this? I wish I knew more, I tried to learn rugs and my eyes glazed over - LOL
It's very difficult to understand and identify.
Yea. I tried looking into it a while back and it was over whelming. The rug has been sitting in my attic since since I found it 2006. Time to do something with it.
