Here is another group of 12 early clay marbles in natural colors without dyes that were first added in the 19th century. This group of early marbles have characteristic irregularites in shape & have a little wobble when rolled.  It's a delight to own these precious little early toys that were cherished by children from years ago.  This set of marbles is currently for sale at the Vintage Touch online store at:  http://deannamoyers.ecrater.com/p/12693428/antique-clay-marbles-12-...

Well thanks for your input, but my marbles are not perfectly round and do not roll nice and evenly.  They do look and feel like clay.  I have some stone marbles and other types and these don't feel like the others do.  I guess I'll have to find more information.

Hi, your clay marbles are too pretty and too well formed.  They all roll nice and evenly (I'd bet). They are machine made by the millions in China, Mexico and other countries. The are all over the place and have zero collector value.

Real clay marbles look and feel like clay. Here is a picture of a few that I own. If you roll them they don't roll straight.

Marbles are very difficult because of the infiltration and saturation of the market. You have some pretty marbles; however, the colored ones are reproductions. Genuine Civil War era clay marbles were simple and made according to the color of clay which ranged from brown/orange to deep gray/black.  Colors are late 20th Century reproductions. Unfortunately - even the dull clay marbles do not have a following as well as the early 20th century ones do.

You've got some beauties! I,too have scant knowledge about marbles, but from what I've seen/read, yours look like Civil War-era...(?)

My marble knowledge is also extremely limited but I do like the early clay marbles, and I have some for sale.  You can see such a group for sale at the Vintage Touch online store at: http://deannamoyers.ecrater.com/p/12502463/12-early-clay-marbles-di...

To all members of I antique on Line - this is a great place, but what even makes it greater is being able to "see" you --- and by seeing you, this does not mean your actually self but an identity or pseudo image if you will, that could be anything you want to be (within reason). I have many different Avatars - or images - but here I like using a photo of my brick and mortar store. I also like using my puppies - one such photo is of my Yorkie Zoie with her five puppies beneath her, and one pup in particular named Mackie who at the same time I snapped the picture, rolled on his back. This is definitely a Kodak moment. However; you do not have to be camera proficient and can even choose clip art or anything free from the Internet.

We want you to have an enjoyable time here, and to stay a while. which means we would like to "see you" !!!!

It is difficult to tell from looking what the condition of your marbles is.  If they were played with they probably have a fair share of dings, chips and flea bites. This makes them worthless to a collector.

You have only 1 marble of any interest, the cleary with a fish in it. Can't see enough of it though. You need to put a single marble on a pedestal and then take pictures.

The semi-clear marbles with a twisted seed or fabric in them are called cat-eyes and are the most common marble made (billions).

hello folks-maybe someone can help me identify some of these marbles-this is a small tidbit of what I have, they came from a friend whos husband passed and he collected and inherited his fathers collection. I don't know what i have here but am beginning to understand that there is value. I am interested in selling them all, don't know where to start. sorry about the pictures, they do not do them justice. anyway, I would appreciate any input and thank you very much.
