Meet your moderator Marlin Martin. . http://iantiqueonline.ning.com/profile/MarlinMartin I collect a variety of things but ladies head vases have become a real passion of mine. I purchased my first head vase in 1999 and over the years I've added about 750 vases to my collection. I now have several curio cabinets in my home filled to capacity with vintage ladies. I have had the good fortune to have attended the annual head vase convention a couple times and I’ve met several really nice collectors that share my passion for these lovely ladies. In addition to collecting head vases, I also have a small collection of head vase identification and price guides. Some of these books are now out of print and very hard to find.My interest in head vases dates back to the 1960’s. I fondly recall my Father’s older sister, Aunt Nellie, having several of these odd ladies sitting around her front porch. In particular, I remember several vases that I later learned were “Glamour Girls” being filled with dirt and live plants. There were a couple more fragile and detailed vases that she kept in her kitchen and sewing room. They held various items including pencils, feathers, and crochet hooks. She felt these vases were too pretty to be filled with dirt and I could not agree more.

Featuring several thousand head vases in more than 1,500 color photographs, many never before seen in any publication, the book contains primarily lady heads but also features other types of miscellaneous head vases - clowns, animals, children, Madonna figures, and others. Tips and hints for collectors, information on how to make repairs and remove crazing, and how to spot reproductions and fakes are among the special sections in the book. A chapter on the annual head vase convention with information and photographs is included, as well as a quick reference guide to the numbers on the bottoms of the vases. 2004 values. AUTHORBIO: David Barron has been researching and cataloging head vases since 1998. He and his wife, Yvonne, authored The Head Vases by the Numbers Price Guide, which has been updated four times since 1999. They have attended and spoken at the last four Annual Head Vases Convention.
