I Antique Online

A Community For People Who Buy, Sell or Collect Antiques, Collectibles and Art

Hi

Don’t know if this is just an Australian thing or if in America Fondue sets and cooking is becoming a real trendy collection item and party theme.

I have been collecting Fondue sets for about 10 years and entertain at home during winter months in this style. My first set was one I got as a leftover from mum she was chucking it out and I thought what a fun thing to do for a dinner party. Well that started the bug and then I started to collect them. At first they were about $5 to $10 including the forks then new one started to appear on the market as chocolate Fondue sets then the price of the old ones started to increase. Just last weekend I found one in the window of an antique shop as the main display selling for $90. I have about 25 in my collection and use some of them regularly. I also have a small collection of Fondue cook books from the 70’s as well.

Really nice collection of Fondue sets.  I like the way you have displayed them.

I actually found one in Concord, NC. It's an orange pot with a mushroom design. I love it, but it didn't come with a stand. This may sound like a newbie question...but can I use it for normal stove-top cooking?
I've been collecting fondu pots and related accessories for about ten years also and now I have quite the collection of fondu plates, forks and cook books. I've always loved the social aspect of a fondu party. I received my first fondu pot as a wedding present on the 70's. My favorite is the warm cheese sauce dip (don't forget the wine).
I started buying them because i figured (hoped) eventually fondu would become popular again; how could it not it's such a fun thing to do. I have a few displayed in my booth space but they don't seem to be selling.
We eat out less (economy) and and intertain more at home; fondu is one perfect fun way to do this.
