What is your tradition? Do you pull out all the ornaments from the past every year...or do you go with a theme and mix old with new collectibles?
Barbara Crews, excellent author for About.com Collectibles, personally decorates several themed Christmas trees each year. Here's a peak at her NYC tree, loaded with all kinds of collectibles...some traditional, some not so much! :)
What's your favorite tree?
"When I was in my late 20’s my parents lived in Potomac, Maryland right outside of Washington D.C. My Father worked for Lockheed Martin and was the Vice President of their Aeronautical Systems Business. At that time my mom started giving my sister and I the official White House Ornament every year as a gift. The White House Gift Shop started releasing these ornaments in 1990. Each ornament comes in a special gift box that tells the story behind the ornament.
When I met Mr. Information. he was a huge history buff, and had lived in Washington, D.C. while he attended college at The Catholic University. He immediately fell in love with these ornaments and my mom was sweet enough to go and order all the old ornaments for him so we have a complete set."
Cute idea! I'd love to decorate a tree with teacups and pearls. That would be too girlie for my hubby.........I bet it would look so pretty.
Oh yeah, Donna, that would be lovely! My mom used to do that - Victorian Christmas Tree with pearls, tea cups, angels and lace. My Dad never said a word. Such a nice guy. :)
Make it RED! Your themed Christmas Tree that is! Lovely with all kinds of RED vintage ornaments, red ribbon and then real red roses! Who knew??
This theme is PINK and Victorian! Great combination...

Oh...I love this one! Family Photos Christmas Tree
Photocopy pictures, glue them to silver paper, and frame them with rickrack and other trims to turn your Christmas tree into a family scrapbook. Fill the boughs with small apples, kumquats, and vintage-style ornaments.
Editor's Lighting Tip: Pick lights in a color that match your key ornaments (in this case, orange). That way they enhance the color scheme rather than draw away from it.
