About Your Moderator Marie:
My love of Florida funque began with a good friend giving me a set of salt and pepper shakers with pink flamingos inside. From that point on the search was on for more, more and more! Each room of my home has some Florida kitsch from books to paintings and everything in between. My home is painted pink with green shutters adorned with wooden pineapples and real pineapples planted along the sidewalk. I have yet to find a Highwayman painting that I can afford, but hey! tomorrow is Saturday and we all know what that means!

More About this group:
A gathering of addicts who live to find the fun and funque foppery that makes Florida such a novel place to live and visit. Please join me and share your favorite photos even if you reside in Minnesota!

I have just returned from Maryland and Virginia and hit every yard sale possible! Came home with some Florida finds! People have told me that to find lots of Florida kitsch leave Florida-well today proved that wrong! Right here in Palm Beach County I discovered flamingo candleholders, Florida shell boxes, Florida Pitcher, and salt and pepper shakers. So no matter where one travels-treasures are everywhere!

No worries! They are hard to come by. I have one and am always on the hunt for more.

Sorry, Marie. Reading back I just realized you wanted Rainbow Springs brochures, not Silver Springs. I don't think I have any Rainbow, but will keep a look out in my travels.

Yes, it is still there. My boss proposed to his girl there last October. Go in the fall-we are cooking down here right now. UGH! I love your brochures, funny thing I have never visited Silver Springs, but I should...If you do head south check out Rainbow Springs State Park, that is my fav! Look for the brochures of olde when you are on the hunt, it used to be a tourist attraction till Disney came to Orlando and a lot of the smaller home grown places went out of business. Any questions, just email me, I have traveled this state for years,
Thanks so much for posting!

So Mountain Lake Sanctuary exists and this will definitely be a place that I will visit. Very interesting history, not the least of which is that the gardens were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed the grounds for the Chicago Exposition, Central Park & Prospect Park in NY among other huge locations.
Here's the Wikipedia link for the Sanctuary. which they call The Bok Tower Gardens

Here is a small collection of vintage Florida maps and brochures from the 40s and 50s. Represented are Silver Springs, St Augustine, St Petersburg and The Mountain Lake Sanctuary in Lake Wales featuring the Singing Tower. Marie, or anyone, is this still around? I would LOVE to visit.

Sorry it took so long for ME to respond. I believe there is a Florida Springs. Let me go find the box and I'll get back to you.
