How should a person having a tag/garage/estate sale deal with people that want to use their bathroom facilities? I have had people ask to use the bathroom on occasion and I really don't like to send them off to an area where I can't keep an eye on them. I usually tell them to go up the street to the local convenience store, but their usual rebuttal is that they can't wait that long! What would you do?

We have never allowed folks to walk around with jewelry - but the big problems that surface are when customer 1 gets in line first to get there - picks out xyz pieces and we would hold them at checkout, meanwhile Customer 2 has watched this, waits a bit then states "oh those are my pieces" etc... Pretty soon they catch on, and start waiting for others to have us save stuff, only to find it's been sold to another dis-honest person in err.  We have locking cases - that isn't the problem, there is SO MUCH it would never fit in 100 cases - lol. So we had to come up with a much better, and more efficiant system - the zip locks are similar - we may try that too - thanks Time.

Vicki - we have been using zip lock bags for a long time now....we keep the jewelry upfront in the checkout area....more expensive items in the case....and fill a zip lock baggie with their items, mark right on the bag with their name and hold it upfront, so no one walks around with the jewelry......

BTW - my co-worker came up with what I think is an excellent idea on selling vintage jewelry. We have a TON of it at this upcoming sale. She is getting these small, inexpensive plastic baskets for each person to place what they want into. Then we have post it's to put their name on it, and will leave it at our check out table until they are ready. This may curb a lot of the "Lifting" that goes on re: jewelry. Share any good tips you might have please!

Get Well Soon Charles - I myself have been trying to get bronchitis for two weeks, I keep fending it off w/ good ole vit. C and Zinc. Just bugs me at night.  We can't be sick for the busy season! :)

Wow - here in the Chicago area, no one takes a rest....we are all so busy right now. I did opt to take the holiday weekend off, but there were probably 50 great estate sales going on this weekend, two even going on today!  I went to one on Friday just to see how some of the others "do their thing." It was fun to be able to take a break for sure! I don't like doing sales on holiday weekends....although around here, people seem to come out no matter what.

Singin’ the Blues!

All right, everyone sing. All together now…

I got them blues,

I got them low down blues.

I got them low down, holiday weekend, no yard sales worth mentioning and those that were there had only piles of tatty clothing and worn out kids’ toys and not even a cat or a dog anywhere to be seen blues…
