I subscribe to GSalr.com. Very helpful for garage sales, specially if I'm out of my area.

Lillian , This is the time of down sizing and minimalist furnishing. Our children grew up around hoarders and Grandparents giving parents items for the home. Children today want new off the sales floor or off the internet items. Major retailers are closing doors because they can no longer sell item Children can buy on the internet with little or no over head.

It is disheartening to see so few people going to garage sales anymore, an those that do expect "give-away" prices. Yesterday I was driving through a nearby town. It must be their community-wide cleanup because most houses had a pile of stuff out in front waiting for pick-up. I saw some nice antique-looking furniture. Now if people think that's trash, no wonder I can't sell anything. Some of the things people put out a garbage were better looking than what I'm trying to sell!

Lillian Dunbar I have been to Albany New York . I went on a purchasing spree in that area looking for items I  never see around here . The Lake George area seems to also be very slow yet I have purchased many items for few dollars in that area .

Fred, I live in the Albany area of New York, that's about 250 miles north of NYC.

Lillian Dunbar, I am not sure what part of the USA you live in as of now. Many places such as Texas and New York , California are seeing things pick up . How ever if you live in Boring Oregon or the Dakota's things might not look so good yet. Given time the economy will pick up around the USA.

Linda look in new york under used furniture dealers. Many are in the down town area. You can also try the antiques auctions and estate sales websites

LB Laub . The upswing in the economy will happen. However for those who need cash now it will be a trying time. Those whom can keep items stored and in good condition will make out real well come the upswing.
