Comment by Brenda G. on February 24, 2012 at 6:34am Vicki, Be sure & put, "Recipe for ??????". I use Betty Crocker's site for a lot of wonderful recipes. You can also build your own recipe box online. I do this quiet often if I see a recipe that I may want to make later.
Vicki - the Betty Crocker book with the "pie" shape picture on the front still does sell really well, 50-100. But I don't think it is because people are buying it to use, it is just very collectible and many people collect cookbooks, just like any other object. Those that are harder to find in good condition, are more desirable.
Comment by vicki hufstetler on February 23, 2012 at 8:12pm That's a very nice idea Deb - thanks for sharing it - Can you tell me which sites you use?
I'm afraid I'm terribly old fashioned and make almost everything from my old cookbooks - lol
Also - I recently sold one of my old Betty Crocker's "The Picture Cook Book" I think it was for over $100! So someone's still using them! We usually price our hardback cookbooks at $2 as well Time - but I charge .50 or .25 for the paperbacks and brochures - those used to sell well, not so much anymore and you guys just told me why! :)
we still cook some things the same but alot of the stuff I cook is not in those older cookbooks
Craig
That's strange, because we always sell a lot of cookbooks at our estate sales....they don't all sell, but we do sell a lot. Of course, except for any special ones (Joy of Cooking, old Betty Crocker, etc) we have them priced to sell at $2 for most hard cover ones....I have a huge collection myself and I have to admit, I look up recipes on the internet much more than I open a cookbook. I do think, however, that many people just enjoy looking through them, mainly for the pictures!
Comment by Brenda G. on February 23, 2012 at 2:29pm Lillian, Most everyone I know, is now looking up recipes on the internet. Takes less time to look them up & you get a large variety of how to make, what you want.
Cookbooks don't sell. I thought they would be one of the first things to be snapped up, but hardly anyone even looks at them. There are a lot of nice ones, some make my mouth water looking at the pictures in them. My mom had a drawer full of them from the 1950s. Don't people cook anymore?
