antique buttons

I would be really grateful for any information regarding these buttons, thanks.

How pretty -- these are Victorian picture buttons, and I can see faceted steel studs on either side of the figure.  I'm not able to tell from the pic what the half moon above it is.  Likely steel or jet.  If you can show it or describe it, we can take a better look.

Do you have a picture of the backs?  I see the buttons come with a bit or provenance.  Nice deal Katy. :)

Thankyou, I have searched high and low for any information on them. I would imagine that they are 150yrs old now. I have a picture of the backs that I have posted along with this reply, Katy :)

The half moons look like they are made of the same metal as the rest of the figure :-)

That's super Katy -- thank you for the additional pic.  I can see that the button is in three parts and I think I'm seeing a metal U-shank.  And if the half moon is the same as the rest, then it appears to be a very nice pair of cut steel novelty buttons of the period.  Score! :)

Whew!  That was hard work but worth it because I love the cut steel buttons :)

Thanks Debra! We got there in the end :)
