I Antique Online

A Community For People Who Buy, Sell or Collect Antiques, Collectibles and Art

Any of you familiar with the magazines that covered antiques back in the 1920's and 30's? I found a stack of The Antiquarian - A Monthly Magazine For the Collector of Antiques, Works of Art And Rarities and The Magazine Antiques while cleaning out my mom and grandmother's "junk" in the storage barn sale story I refer to frequently). I noticed as I looked through their pages that the word 'vintage' is not mentioned. smile. They are filled with objects, furniture, glassware and art from the 1700's and early 1800's. Talk about a reference book filled with history!

I love this ad from the April, 1929 magazine!

Hi Ellene,
I have a few Of those magazines, They are Fascinating, and Kick to Look at, as well as still informative..maybe we could put out a search..When did "Vintage" Become a Word in this Biz..
Good point!

I guess nowadays, the true definition of antiques is 100 years old and vintage is 50 years old. But, like you said, when did vintage become a word? I still have a hard time realizing that people are calling the items I used in the 60's and 70's - vintage! smile.
