Has anyone seen one of these before

I posted this to the main site forum, but after seeing this group thought i would post again here.

 

 

This shelf has been handed down through the family, going to every male in turn.

 

The story as remembered was a family member going back to just before the first world war, was posted in or around china, and after serving there, the Chinese staff who worked for him hand carved this shelf as a thank you.

 

I also have a hand carved frame with a presentation photo of this by the staff to our family member.

 

That’s all I know, if this is one of many or just a one off I do not know, but would like to ask if anyone reading this have ever come across such an item before.
