While visiting an antique mall in western NY this past week, I found a unique woven reed baby basket/stroller. In researching this I found the Oriole Go Basket was made by a company in Cincinnati, Ohio called the Winthrop Mfg Co. They made a number of wicker furniture pieces including porch swings, adult sized chairs, work baskets, and accessories for the Oriole Go Basket. The accessories included a storm covering for the basket/stroller, a leather parcel carrier, sun shade, and a stand with a spring for bouncing the baby in the basket. And I thought these accessories were recent inventions!
The Oriole Go Basket was dated in the posters I found online in the early 1900's (1905, 1907). The ad posters seem to run around $20-30 in prime condition. I don't recall the price for the Go Basket I saw, but I am curious if others have seen this wicker baby item. Share what you know and we will all be blessed.
I work in wicker restoration because I know these are truly American made products. This is evidence of that. If you know other US companies that produced wicker products, then and now, I am all ears.
