Greetings and Happy New Year to everyone! Please accept our appology for our lack of participation in this group.
One topic we would like to bring up is the restoration of new and old wicker. We've been restoring antique wicker for over 35 years. Recently we have been approached on several occasions to repair newer wicker pieces. The materials used to make this "new" wicker varies but none appear to us to be of any quality.
These newer wicker pieces just fall apart. The time and work involved to restore these newer pieces makes it cost prohibitive and senseless since they have little value.
On the other hand, restoring high quality antique wicker, although time consuming and costly, it is a worthwhile investment. Professionally restored antique wicker will provide lasting pleasure and usefulness for decades.
Last summer we did a large restoration project for a customer (antique wicker) that was a real challenge. The pieces were badly neglected for many years. It took a lot of work but the pieces looked wonderful when they were completed. We have included a few photos. A picture is worth a thousand words... Til next time...
