I was answering a question in another forum on this ruler so I thought I would just post it on here also

a pull out rule for measuring inside or outside measurements not a zig zag style one side of the rule is for inside and the other is for out side measurements

the first one of these I had in the collection was on display and some one picked it up mr macho and thought it was just stiff I had just one section pulled out to show it he snapped it off at the joint he just put it down and walked away a lot of these rulers are broken as most people think they are a zig zag ruler but not

rare PALMER'S PATENT "IMPROVED WASHER CUTTING BRACE", patented December 3, 1878. Masonic symbols and a cupid with arrows appear in raised castings on the body of the tool. This brace has been assigned the "B" rating for "less than twenty examples known" in the Pearson book on American Patented Braces. It is in excellent collector quality condition. From the Robert Freed Collection.
