About Your Moderator Al Newman

Meet Al Newman, your moderator. Hello, my name is Al Newman, I am 33 years old and married to a wonderful woman we don't have any children yet but we are hoping to soon, I am ex-military and a welder by trade. I have been collecting all sorts of shaving devices since I was about 14 years old and have quite a collection. My favorites are the Gillette razors but I own all kinds including straight razors plus strops and hones.

Rick, could you tell me what you use to clean old safety razors? Metal rusts when water is left on it, so do you just wipe it with a damp cloth if it's really dirty, or a dry one?

Rick...I have a question for you...When you sell a vintage safety razor, do you remove the old blade, or leave it in? My hubby said the person buying it would have common sense, as I had said I was worried about them needing a tetanus shot! (I've found that not all people have good ol' common sense sometimes!)

Hi Rick! Well congrats on becoming a moderator! All you have to do for being a moderator is post, post, post! LOL Seriously, just sharing your luv for what you collect, starting discussions, and posting lots of photos, is the key!
I was happy to see there was a group on vintage razors, but it would be really great... if Dianne Z could include the 'old fashioned' kind for the 'antique' part! If it's included...I could ask my hubby to 'dig up' his antique straight razor! I can't remember if it was his father's, or grandfather's...short memory, as I'm a 'Vintage Picker With A Passion'! LOL
I'll be posting a discussion here shortly... hopefully today! Maybe you can date what I just found! I just have to keep you in suspense! LOL

I have some vintage razor blades I picked up at an estate sale:

A box of double edge Oilite by Chrysler--or Amplex Detroit 31, Michigan--9 in the box that are packaged and 2 separate.

10 Berkeley blades 9 in original red wrapper

Pal box, single edge, 1 in box, American Safety Razor Co, new York 17, New York...

Are they worth anything?
