Do you use a specific formula to date jewelry that is not marked?
I spend hours and hours pouring over books and websites. A labor of love.
Thought this group may have some pointers or guidelines.
I think both of your pieces are 1950's - 1960's. Just knowing what the style was during any particular era is usually all you need to date pieces. Though some seem to transend time - the real classics like the thermo set pieces by Lisner are so well done they look like they are modern from today! There is a great online site - if you haven't already found it: http://www.illusionjewels.com/costumejewelrymarksn.html
Hi Laura, I'm with Vicki on this one. They appear to be 50s' -60's, the style seems to fit. I don't think there are any specific formulae that apply. floral subjects are fairly timeless, so you kind of have to take a leap of faith on the design/style side. As Vicki said, some pieces are so classic, they could fit in well in todays' jewelry market - and conversely, some of todays' pieces could have been made in the 60's - 70's. O.K. are you confused now?? lol! If it makes you feel any better, I have trouble with the 1950's era too! Sue
Hi Laura,
Just like anything else in the antique and collectible field, it takes experience, and research to date an unsigned beauty..
And many unsigned pieces were made by specific companies, but simply were not signed,
Pin backs, earring backs etc, are also from different eras and companies
If you do not belong to jewelryring @ yahoo groups you should, we have discussions every day, RFI's (research for information.. and are quite the family..hope to see you there...And do not forget the new team..VJSE..Vintage jewelry sellers on Etsy..
and yes your pieces are from the 50's -60's..
XO
