I bought 2 lots of vintage jewelry at an estate sale and these 2 brooches were in the lot.

1.features a mermaid, and has mother of pearl inlay  (I believe) of leaves and a flower on top.I cannot find a maker's mark on it. It is about 2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide.Appears to be made of base metal.

2.

Features a woman's head and she may be a mermaid as well. there are 2 pinkish snake looking figures at the bottom. I assume the type of figure it is relates to astrology or some other topic,bt I don't know/ Please give me your honest thoughts. I will be very appreciative.

The leaves look to be enamel not mother of pearl. They look to be newer examples of costume jewelry done in the Art Nouveau time period style. You might try checking with the Jewelry Group.

Oops, sorry you are in the Jewelry Group!

Thank you,Linda. The leaves  and the flower on the mermaid appear to be painted. I will try to get a close up so they can be seen better. What do you think about the other one?

I agree with Linda They appear to be newer  pieces.

Thank you.How new can you give me an approximate date...newer  like in the 2000'sor earlier.

Without holding it's hard but I would say 1990  thru 2000's.  Only my opinion.

Happy (NewyÝeaŕ,THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.
