The link I provided above tells the complete story and background of the posters, pictures, lobby cards, etc., that Tom is referring to.  It was an interesting read.

Those are called "Lobby cards" and were used to advertise upcoming movies. They were posted inside the theater in the lobby or rest rooms.

The R on yours stands for Re-release. 74 is for the year 1974 when the re-release occurred. 312 is the photo number. Most of them the current auction starting price is $20-25.00 USD. The original showing of Gone with the Wind was in 1968.

I'm thinking Molly and Tom are on the right track, but I wish I could see what your photo's say in the bottom left side?

Also, I thought these type of photo's were called "Stills", But I'm not at all certain. Worth checking out though, because, I thought that "Lobby Cards" are more like posters - ie the whole frame is taken up with the subject matter. I could be wrong on that, but you will need to do some research to be sure, and the link Molly gave you should be a good start!

Please do keep us posted!

The NSS:
From the early 1940’s until 1984, all movie paper was controlled by the National Screen Service. They did not sell posters, window cards, glossy 8x10, etc., but rented them out for use during a movie’s run.  The bottom left corner of Sharon's pictures says:

Property of the National Screen Service. Licensed for display only in conjunction with the exhibition of this picture at your theater. Must be returned immediately thereafter.

To quote the lead actor in GWTW, Clark Gable..."Frankly my lady I don't give a damn!" LOL
