I would love to find out about my beautiful vase which my Mum gave me and i remember it when i was very little. My understanding is that the vase was my great-grandmothers who came out from Virginia to Australia and married but when my grandmother was 3yrs old in 1894, her Mum died and she was raised by her father. The vase stands about 18 inches high and is handpainted but it doesnt have any marks or not that i can find. Any help would be greatly appreciated thankyou Joy
Hi Barbara, Very nice gift from your mum. I wish I could help you. This reminds me of three seperate pieces my mother has. Two of them the colors and paint decorations that are similar are from Japan and one that reminds me of your shape is from Austria. I'll be happy to hear what you find out. Regards, EJ
EJ, You are certainly on track. The vase was made for the english market. It was handpainted and fired more than once.
I can not properly spell the word, It something like this Chenery or something like that.
I will look it up and get back with information sometime later.
The vase is extremely valuable. It could easily be worth above $30k
Rescue means well but sometimes his enthusiasm exceeds his knowledge. First of all we haven't any idea who made your vase, when, where, etc. or what your vase is worth, if it is authentic, broken, cracked, chipped, etc. Are there any marks (names) on the bottom? How tall is it? As for shape, it looks a lot like Greecean urns.
I have thought long and hard about this but my family must come first. My husband recently was told he has lung cancer so with so many expenses i want to sell my vase and as it is stored away in a box i only look at it once in a blue moon. My Mum said when we bought our home that if it came down to it, i should sell the vase. I decided not to sell it and we have got through all the hard times. Now that my husband has the fight of his life i would prefer to sell the vase to someone who could enjoy it properly. If you know of anyone who is interested in the vase i would greatly appreciate it.
To everyone who replied to my question about my vase "thankyou so much" I only wish Mum was here to share it with her. I have it stored away safe and sound but i will cherish forever Thankyou again Joy
I am wondering if you have any antique stores near you that could perhaps help out. Also, being in Australia you could perhaps send the pictures and information in to the ABC Collectors show site and see if they can be of any help to you closer at hand.
