Hi, am trying to find information on a piece of linen I have managed to acquire. It is approx. 24" x 20" and is a heavy piece with a crown surrounded by an oval with the word BALMORAL underneath it and the word FRETTE, all embossed into the one end of the piece of linen. Can anyone help me with information as to what it is, where it perhaps come from and what it would have been used for???? Not asking much am I. lol

Balmoral Castle is in Scotland and Frette is an Italian textile company known for its premium linen. It was established in 1860 in Grenoble, France. (I did a google search) Is it linen damask? Can you post a picture? Christine @ www.vintagelinens.etsy.com

Hi Christine,
Husband has tried to take a picture or two that is reasonable. Have tried to scan, but being so white it has been hard to get the details. It is not damask, if that means linen with a self pattern all over it. The pictures should give you an idea I hope. Would be grateful for any information, and also if anyone can suggest a price for me to sell it. It is not out of shape as the picture would suggest. Husbands do not always understand this straightening bit, but am grateful for his being involved, so it is not so much of a problem anyway.

Somebody's souvenir I assume. No idea which hotel it was "stolen" from...value is minimal.

Thank you for your information. It is nice to know people like you are around to help. Guess it is not going to be something I can put a big price on eh?
There is just so many things to look at these days, and so much information that it is almost too much for one person to keep track of.
Thanks again.

Val, your Frette linen towel (and a fine linen towel it is;) is from Rocco Forte's luxury, five-star Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland--a very nice hotel, indeed! Judging from the size, it is most probably a bath "mat"... Here is a link to the hotel's site...http://www.thebalmoralhotel.com.

Thank you Mary, I knew the logo would be significant, but had no idea how to start to look for it. Takes you special people to help. Next silly question is, any idea of a price to sell it? lol.

Amen! Fortunately we have Google Search and lots of spare time! But keep looking and eventually you will find your perfect treasure!
