INTERESTING ORIENTAL IVORY/SCRIMSHAW FIGURINE

Hello,

   Recently obtained a very interesting old ivory with scrimshaw  markings oriental figurine. I know very little about it and that is why I am asking for anyones kind help. It’s about 4’’ in height. No markings on bottom. Excellent condition. If any of you experts can give me any info at all It would be much appreciated . Thanks John

Nice looking Buddha. Probably Chinese. Nicely carved and it looks like an ebony base?

Thing is John, you do know that Ivory is basically banned world wide? The only way people are selling these pieces at all is through private sale, or illegally listing them as "bone". Which really could get you in trouble in several states and many countries. 

Just an FYI for ya! Try to find a website based on antique/vintage Ivory carvings, and you might learn more, without getting in a mess! ;)
