Fashionably Frozen in Time, Cobblestones Sells Vintage Clothing in the East Village

“Well, how are we today, young man?” the glamorous proprietor of Cobblestones, Delanee Koppersmith, sang out to a New York University student in horn-rimmed glasses who gingerly entered her vintage clothing store one snowy Tuesday. He was shopping for a gift for his long-distance girlfriend — always an intimidating prospect. The man broke into a relieved smile as Ms. Koppersmith started singing along to the Ella Fitzgerald tune playing in the store: “No, no, they can’t take that away from me ...”
