I bought this Asian Vase second hand recently for a few dollars. It was very dirty and appeared to be coated in a brown sticky varnish which covered most of the detail. I thought I would have to strip it off with some solvent but amazingly it all washed off in soapy water to leave a beautiful vase. It has a Made in China stamp on the bottom which suggests it is post 1950 but otherwise I have no idea if it is of any value. The vase is 36cm tall and has pictures of warriors with swords on either side. Inside the top has a painted pattern. The paint is raised in dots in places and there is a good amount of gold paint on it too. I would welcome any comments on my treasured find.

This is an interesting article about satsuma:

You may need to copy and paste. Search on google under "made in china satsuma" will bring up alot of information for you also. Hope it helps. EJ

Thanks EJ I think my vase is indeed some sort of reproduction / fake Satsuma. I really appreciate your reply and will happily keep it for me now! regards, Chrystal

Your welcome. It is still a nice piece for decor and for a few dollars you couldn't go wrong. :)
I also love learning about the history of things.
