Skinner, Inc. will hold an auction of Fine Wines on May 4th at 4 p.m. in its Boston gallery at 63 Park Plaza. Through its partnership with Lower Falls Wine Company of Newton, MA, Skinner will offer more than 750 lots of fine wines from most corners of the earth.

Of particular note are twenty cases of 1982 first growth Bordeaux.  Eleven cases of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982 alone come from one singular cellar and wear their provenance proudly -  showing nice bin soil, these bottles have lain quietly in ideal conditions for these decades, slowly evolving and maturing. Because there are eleven lots of the Chateau Lafite Rothschild going up for bid, serious buyers looking to toss their hat into the ring stand a fair chance of winning this near-perfect history-making vintage. Each case lot is currently estimated at $40,000 to $60,000.

Also featured in the auction are seven lots, of which six are full cases, of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1982. Critic Robert Parker proclaimed “This wine remains one of the legends of Bordeaux” and awarded it 100 pts. Full cases are estimated at $12,000 to $18,000. From the same collection are two lovely lots of champagne: five bottles of Dom Perignon Cuvee Dom Perignon 1982, estimated at $1,000 to $1,500, and a jeroboam of Perrier Jouet Fleur de Champagne 1988, estimated at $400 to $500.

Several ‘Yankee Cellars’ are shown off to advantage. Yankee Cellars often yield investment-grade wines collected on personal preference and are reflective of decades of travel through favored wine regions. One such collection comes from the North Shore and includes rare mature Bordeaux such as a magnum of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1961; several enticing and affordable bottles of Burgundy; and six cases of Lopez de Heredia White Vina Tondonia 1966, each case estimated at $1,000 to $1,500. Another anchoring consignment brings a strategic and regionally diverse selection showcasing some of the finest wines of Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhone, Piedmont, Jumilla, Toro, and the New World. This collection includes three bottles of Chateau Angelus 2000, estimated at $4,000 to $6,000; a case of Guigal La Turque 2005 estimated at $4,500 to $5, 500; and a case of Giacosa Barolo Riserva Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga 2004, estimated at $4,500 to $6,500.

“This auction is rich with wines of the finest vintages and finest vineyards on earth.  If you attend the auction for an hour you’ll travel around the world and back,” says Marie Keep, Director of Fine Wines for Skinner, Inc. “Perhaps in this auction more than any other, there’s truly something for everyone.”

To arrange for a preview, please contact Marie Keep, director of Skinner’s Fine Wines Department, at 508 970-3296 or finewines@skinnerinc.com.  Skinner is currently accepting consignments for its Fall 2011 auction of Fine Wines and can accept a single noteworthy bottle or an entire collection.
