Skinner, Inc. will host a sale of fine jewelry at its Boston gallery on September 13th, 2011. The sale will feature a broad range of collections, and of note, boasts a pretty Art Deco, 8.72 carat sugarloaf emerald and diamond ring, signed by Raymond Yard. The estimated auction value is $20,000 to $30,000. The well-rounded sale features many signed contemporary pieces, an interesting collection of cuff links and watches, and beautiful Art Deco jewelry by Cartier.
Paul Flato Selections
The sale will feature two pieces by Paul Flato, the noted 1930s jeweler to movie stars like Greta Garbo, Katharine Hepburn and Joan Crawford. From a New York estate, lot 630 is an Art Deco platinum, burma sapphire and diamond ring. Accompanied by the original receipt from Flato’s salon, the estimated auction value is $25,000 to $35,000.
Cartier Jewelry Featured Throughout the Sale
Cartier makes a strong appearance at the upcoming sale. The back cover of the auction catalog features lot 635, a striking Cartier platinum and diamond strap bracelet with the original box estimated to be worth $100,000 to $150,000.
In true Skinner fashion, there will be a spectacular assortment of diamonds offered at the September 13th auction, including a variety of engagement rings ranging from 1.00 ct. to over 6.00 cts., including a beautiful pear-shaped diamond pendant weighing 6.45 cts. Lot 390 is estimated at $25,000 to $35,000.
Signed Contemporary Jewelry
The sale features a number of signed contemporary pieces, notably from Gianmaria Buccellati including lot 431, a gem-set flower brooch, set with an old mine-cut diamond weighing approx. 1.20 cts., further set with a fancy cut sapphire and ruby, cabochon emerald highlights, with an estimated auction value of $10,000 to $15,000; lot 44, a Marilyn Cooperman gem-set “Jody” necklace, one of only two made, set throughout with wonderful fall colored gems including colored sapphires, tsavorites, tourmalines, citrines, and peridot, and estimated at $8,000 to $12,000; pieces from David Webb including lot 289, a 18kt gold Zodiac pendant/brooch, depicting Pisces, estimated at $4,000 to $6,000; lot 337, an 18kt gold and enamel snake ring, estimated at $300 to $500; and finally, lot 461 18kt gold and enamel earclips, each designed as doorknocker with white enamel, with an estimated auction value of $4,500 to $5,500.
Previews and Special Events
Previews will be held on Sunday, September 11th, 2011 from 12:00 to 5:00 pm and Monday, September 12th, 2011 from 12:00 to 7:00 pm. In conjunction with the fine jewelry auction preview, Skinner Inc. will host a Jewelry Clinic on Sunday, September 11th, 2011 from 12:00 to 5:00 pm with Mr. Hagop Matossian from Bostonian Jewelers. Mr. Matossian is an expert in antique and period jewelry restoration, known for his laser restoration techniques, and will be available for individual consultations concerning items in the auction.

Illustrated catalogue #2561B is available by mail for $35 ($42 for foreign requests) from the subscription department at (508)970-3240 or at the gallery for $32. Prices realized will be available at www.skinnerinc.com during and after the sale.
