"Well, the question was "what these are, their purpose, and/or age.", so I think that is the point being discussed. And someone gave prices for real shoes which would be irrelevant for ceramic tourist items like these. These may be tiny,…"

Antique Oil Painting of Woman with Shawl & a Man Wearing Sombrero

When I grew up in the 1950's this painting was always displayed in our home; when we moved the painting naturally traveled with us.  I believe that this came thru my mother's family as my father did not have much of any interest in art. My mother was born in 1914 and raised in Philadelphia and I don't know how she or her family came into possession of this painting.  It's fairly large, at least 28-30" from top to bottom.  I used to see this every day and never really took a close look at it;…See More

"Yes, Tom, you are correct, I was thinking spigot and wrote spout.  My main point is that it has a way for liquid to come out and I do not see a spigot/faucet on this item - unless it is on a side that we do not see."

Hoping for help dating this piece

I just started going through boxes of China I inherited. I found this cake plate in a box with some other hand painted Limoge dated 1894. The only mark I can see is the artist's signature- looks like 'Osborne' maybe? The baske pattern is slightly raised. It's a lovely piece!

"A samovar would not have a spout, it would have a spigot or faucet from which coffee or tea would flow into a cup."
