Fossilize Walrus Ivory Caring

I had recently acquired this Eskimo/Inuit Indian carving on what I believe to be Fossilized Walrus tusk. This is either an ashtray or pipe holder..I picked this up at an estate sale..It measures roughly 9"long x 2 wide"x 3 at it's tallest point" It has a crack that has been repaired/filled in...in the very middle of the piece.…See More

"Although it looks like a vase, I would guess that it's hand blown and once contained olives or peppers.  It probably had a stopper or cork. If so it should have a pontil on the bottom (pigtail). Wine and beer came in dark colored glass,…"

"I can't see the top of the lamp in any of your pics.  I'd like to also see the bottom or base in a picture, and if it's electric I would like to see a pic of the cord and plug.  If there is a shade or chimney show it to…"

"I can't find that mark anywhere. I looked under "eagle", "flying eagle", diving eagle" and "screaming eagle"...nothing. I also looked under pottery marks for several different countries. The design is fairly…"

"I think it looks Chinese. The name Zi means graceful or beautiful in Chinese. It is usually accompanied by a second word as an adjective. The signature starts with Zi & the accompany word I can't read."

"Observations: The orchid design,or lilies, was used in the 18th and 19th centuries in the USA on stoneware urns, jugs and pots. Your vase doesn't look that old; looks newer, late 20th Century. I reversed your marks, to see what it looked like…"

tomsantiquesetcetera replied to House of Charm Antiques Southinc's discussion Ferragamo Pashmina? in the group Whadja Find Today
"One way to sell it, if that is your desire, would be to take it to a dry cleaner and have it professionally dry-cleaned, then leave it in the plastic garment bag.  And then advertise that it has been cleaned. If not cleaned I would not buy it.…"

tomsantiquesetcetera replied to Anthony Fee's discussion Please Help i.d this mark in the group Whadja Find Today
"I don't know how you found it, but am glad you did! It's a really cool looking piece. The monogram looks like it might be written in Farsi, the language of Persia, but that wouldn't make sense if it's made in Cornwall, UK. Cheers."
